I’ve always been the kind of person who can hold space for others, navigate the chaos, and keep moving forward – even in hard times. But nothing prepared me for the emotional whiplash that hit when I started hormone replacement therapy.
I thought I was ready. I’ve done the reading, I understand my body, and I know what support looks like. But the side effects came on fast – especially the emotional stuff. One afternoon, I felt like I was unraveling. Not to be dramatic, but it felt like dark waves covered by even darker clouds were pushing me down, and every negative thought I’d ever had came at me – All. At. Once.
In a moment of desperation, I opened ChatGPT and typed a question I’d never thought I’d ask anyone, let alone a robot:
“Would taking too many heart meds result in death?”
I continued this line of questioning.
“Would death by heart medication be painful?”
It didn’t judge.
It didn’t send me to a hotline or panic.
Instead, it gave me a clear answer – along with a disclaimer, reminding me that it’s not a doctor and urging me to seek help. But it treated me like a thinking adult. And in that moment, I needed that.
As the emotional fog started to clear, I shifted my questions. I asked about the hormones I was taking: estrogen and progesterone. I didn’t expect much—just a bit of clarity. But what I got was an unexpected moment of insight.
ChatGPT asked me when I was taking the progesterone.
Turns out, I’d been taking it first thing in the morning. It gently suggested I try taking it before bed – explaining that the timing of progesterone can dramatically affect mood, sleep, and mental clarity.
I changed the timing that night.
And within 24 hours, I felt like myself again.
Why I’m Sharing This
I’m not saying AI replaced a doctor. And I’m definitely not suggesting you skip professional help.
I am saying that sometimes, when you can’t think straight, when your usual people aren’t available, and when your brain feels like it’s not your own – having something that calmly helps you think things through can make all the difference.
It definitely did that for me.
